ABC Casts Its First Ever Black Bachelorette In Rachel Lindsay

Rachel Lindsay has been named ABC's next 'Bachelorette'.

The 31-year-old attorney from Dallas, Texas will be the first black Bachelorette or Bachelor in the series' history.

Viewers had been rooting for Lindsay since the beginning of the season but ABC finally made it official on Monday night's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'.

Interestingly, ABC made the announcement with Rachel Lindsay still in the running on the current season with Nick Viall.

The reality series usually waits until the season is about the wrap about before making the announcement but ABC is breaking with tradition even though its spoils a bit of the fun for its loyal audience.

Rachel Lindsay made a splash when she received the first impression rose this season.

"I thought there was no other choice but Rachel and she's a Dallas girl, so we're going to keep that trend rolling," former 'Bachelorette' JoJo Fletcher told E. "I just love that she's a good age. She's very smart. She handles herself well. She's super confident and it's nice that they are mixing it up, so props to them."

"I think we're all ready for it," she said of the franchise's first black lead. "I think progression only happens when you kind of push the boundaries and you make people get used to something or get comfortable with something."
