ABC Axes 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition', TLC Orders 'Extreme Cheapskates'

ABC has cancelled 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' after nine seasons on the air.

The show will wrap up with its 200th episode on January 13, 2012, which will see the team build seven homes for families affected by the tornado in Joplin, Missouri.

"For nine seasons, I was blessed to have been given the opportunity to change lives across the globe with the help of loving communities, generous sponsors, and a cast that has become my second family," says interior designer Michael Moloney.

"I was lucky to have this show as a perpetual reminder of my own blessings, but my work won't stop with the end of the series. It is with a somber heart I close this chapter, but with such excitement I begin the next one."

The series, which began averaging 16 million viewers, averaged around 9 million viewers last season.

Meanwhile, ABC has already hired host Ty Pennington to helm the network's upcoming daytime talk show and lifestyle series 'The Revolution'.

But with the end of one 'Extreme' show, comes the beginning of another.

TLC has announced it plans to spin-off its hit series 'Extreme Couponing' with 'Extreme Cheapskates.'

The show will follow people who go to extreme lengths to save money like one family who uses cloth toilet wipes to save money and a man who hunts dumpsters to find an anniversary gift for his wife.

'Extreme Cheapskates' will air on December 28, and if successful, the network will likely order it to series.
