'40-Year-Old Virgin' Actor Gets Life Sentence for Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend

Shelley Malil, an actor in 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin', has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend.

Judge Harry Elias gave the actor, who played one of Steve Carell's SmartTech sidekicks in the 2005 film, the maximum sentence three months after convicted him of premeditated attempted murder for stabbing Kendra Beebe more than 20 times.

Malil had admitted to stabbing Beebe, but claimed he became disoriented when he went to her San Diego home and found another man there, leading him to stab at a figure he thought was attacking him. Beebe suffered a punctured lung, cuts to her neck, chest back, and arms.

"I am at a loss for words right now," Malil told the court before hearing the sentence. "I failed miserably, not only as a human being but as a father, son, uncle, brother, and friend."

"What I did to Kendra, I don't have the words to express my remorse. I want to do whatever I need to do to make sure I make right from the wrong that I did."
